As many are experiencing the loss/transition of loved ones and family members remember that even though the process of grief can be very difficult, there are many things that can be done  to keep the memory and legacy of that individual alive. Some things have become common practice in society such as R.I.P shirts, tattoos, special engraving on tombstones etc.  Pouring libation to honor and keep the legacy alive of those who have gone before you is one of many  ancient African rituals that can be applied during the tie of grief.

Other suggestions of things you can do to pay homage and honor loved ones who have passed on is establish new traditions, make an ancestral altar, engage in scrapbooking, reminisce of the funny times you had, look at old videos and photos, honoring them through arts/music, start up a business in honor of them, hold annual celebrations in their honor, create a slideshow, visit grave sites, use your social media platform to honor them, write about them, read through orbituaries etc. Connecting with others and simply sharing stories can also be a powerful tool to heal and work through the challenging process. Through loss we can cultivate gratitude and have a renewed appreciation for life which can be therapeutic nevertheless!
